Inquiry and land-based early learning:
4e offers inquiry-based learning in early years classrooms and community settings on Manitoulin Island and in Sudbury. Artists spend time with children aged 3-5, indoors and out, to learn about their curiosities, and create art engagements that draw out students' inquiries in connection with ecology and the land. Students work in teams or as individuals to answer questions such as ‘why do leaves change colour in the fall?’, or ‘why do these milkweed pods have seeds?". We embrace process-based practices, work with natural materials, creative collaborative projects, and encourage activities that engender the kind of approaches needed in research, following and encouraging questions, whether that be arts-based or natural science research. Associated artists are highly trained artist educators and have degrees in fine art, art history, environmental science, outdoor learning and geography.
