Inquiry and land-based early learning:

After many seasons of offering inquiry-based learning in early years classrooms and community settings on Manitoulin Island and in Sudbury, 4elements decided to hit the road in Spring 2017 with a new series of workshops for teachers, ECEs, and artist educators.

Both our half-day – Connecting Children with Nature and Place through Drawing – and full-day – Building Ecological Learning through the Arts – workshops were engaging and fun, focusing on supporting educators to explore natural materials, ecology, and ‘Reggio‘ approaches to education.

Workshops were held throughout the province, including in Carleton Place, Lindsay, Sudbury, and Manitoulin Island. We are pleased to report that we had great response. Our sessions had full rooms of enthusiastic participants who jumped right into the hands-on activities, and who were able to bring home ideas about using natural art materials and working with ecological ways of thinking to share with their students and fellow educators. Thank you to our hosts and all the educators who came out for creative land-based learning!

You can read more about our early-years work here. And… don’t forget to keep an eye out for two books we have in process, profiling 4e’s 15 years of land-based early learning and community arts work.
