Elemental Festival in Kagawong

Our first annual Elemental Festival in October 2015 featured innovative, contemporary site-specific and land-based works: installation, performance, music and writing. Check out the picture gallery from the festival!

Among the events:

  • Sound walks, post-card exchange, and art exhibition
  • Festival Opening: Announcement of Elemental Festival Writing Prize, 'Riffing on the River' with Boo Watson, and celebration of the river restoration with Manitoulin Streams
  • St. John's Anglican Church fundraiser: Gospel music with Kagawong Folk Roots Collective. Cake and refreshments for sale.
  • Kids Environmental Art Workshop with 4e and Manitoulin Streams: Salmon ecosystems
  • Adult Soundscape Workshop with Sean Procyk
  • Paddle the upper river with North Wind Adventures, enjoy the special festival rate!
  • Artist led tour along the river with Michael Belmore, Sean Procyk, Ann Marie Hadcock and more!
  • Musical Guest Pistol George Warren from Sudbury
  • Community Discussion and creative exploration facilitated by Heather Thoma: How has the river changed over time?

Tracey-Mae Chambers – Artist in Residence

August 27th - September 4th: Exhibition
August 26th: Encaustic Workshop

Tracey-Mae Chambers is an artist and educator working with encaustic and fibre. She has taught and exhibited across Ontario, spreading her passion for encaustic. Her latest body of work addresses missing and murdered Aboriginal women in Canada, focussing on the change away from traditional female roles as the centre of Aboriginal families and communities since contact with Europeans

Stop by the 4elements Studio - 91 Main Street, Kagawong - to see the new exhibition. Aug. 27-29 and Sept. 1, Tracey-Mae will be in the studio and available to chat.

$75 includes a full-day workshop and all the materials needed to get started with encaustic painting. Join 4e artist in residence, Tracey-Mae Chambers, in exploring the ancient technique of using hot beeswax and pigment to create images.
